The Dragon Painter Review

Note I spell like I Rockl The Dragon

The Dragon Painter

This is my review on The Dragon Painter from the distant future year (To Jefferson Davis) of 1919 (80 years before Robotech)

Its directed by William Worthington who did nothing I've seem

It stars Sessue Hayakawa ()Real name Kintaro Hayakawa like the Mortal Komnbat guy) from The Cheat/The Bridge on the River Kwai/Swiss Family Robinson, his wife Tsuru Aoki, Edward Peil Sr from Broken Blossoms\The Iron Horse/Samson and Delilah, and Toyo Fujita

I saw this b4 on tcm and liked it

It was made by Hayakawa as he was tired of making movies that made his kind look bad so he started his own company to do it his way

like if jordon peele weasn't so malcontent

itys based on a book by Sidney McCall aka Mary McNeil Fenollosa i never read

so after logos we get text added recently about how this film was made and its themes as well as how this was taken from the french version and fixed up

then the movie starts and we get credits and then its  the hanake mountains of Japan

this geniius painter tatsu lives there and crimpleres his paper and jumps arpund

he prays to the mountain gods to return his futrure wife who was turned inti a dragon 1000 years ago

So he goes to the village to get paper and clashes with ther people who dont get him like the autismo from big bang theory

meanwhile in Anti Soiviet Tokyo; is indara, the last of a lomg line of painter who needs a disciple to pass down his techniques

he only wants 1 worthy of his style and all the guys who tried outrr s-cked

also he hasa daughter who i guessis between 17 and 47, hard to tell

meanwhilr, tatsu is trying to paint a waterfall, butr NOT kickimng it so hard it flows up, and1 guy sees his work and likes it

hje sez he knows where tatsu can find his priuncess and asks him why he draws

tatsu sezhe will be happy when hne gets the princess anddraws tul he finds her

this guy who dresses like d w griffith sez to come to tokyo to find her andtatsu nerary strangles him as hes nuts

so indara ghets a letter saying he found a savage guyn in the mounbtains like goku in dragon ball who paints dragons as his woman was turned into 1

indara likes his work senmt and prepares then on the day hes dsed to come they come

oh and the d w griffith guy is uchida who goes ahead to announce him

tatsu goes up  as uchida talks to iondara and tatsu catches a fake bird decoration as hes a caveman

he goes to the house and whines about waitying and the maid or slave or w/e cleans his feet off

no shoes huh? going hobbit?

tatsu bustds in and roughjs up uchida and asks indara where the princess is

indara and guys sit andf tatsu throws the sitting pillow and offends the guests

he also never heard of indara whos a big deal

he only paintys dragons and 1 paiinting he sez the dragon is under the lake

then you didnt paint a dragon if theres no dragon paiunted!

this guys got some kind of autism, not as an insult, but as in the codition like michael jackson

both were genious artistys in their field

so indara acceptys him as his successor but tatsu only wants da princess and is gonna go

also; dragon gf? like thjat dfragon maid anime about thaT huge b00bs blonde lucoa?

so he throwes this guys fan down and the guy b00ks it and indara shows ghis daughter do a japanerse  dancve sorta like mai shiranui but less hot

tAtsu gets a huge b0ner and it extends out and keeps going and fills the whole room with b0ng until they are asll crushed under the pressure

jk really hes into her but the doors close and he weants her back

indara sez its his daughter and when tatsu wants to marry her, indara sez to proove his worth as hios successor

tatsu consents anddont want a bed but sleeps out by the hill

at night the chick goes outand this midnight in the garden of good and evil is pretty well done

nice design and feel and style

tatsu is still awake and after walking around, they meret and he sez for 1000 years he looked for her engraving hjer image on things

is he a yokai? like shuten doji?

she sez to be patient and she only came out to be in moon light ands goes back in

so he starts his trainimng the next day and dont like being inside

hes given a new outfit andf throws the slave on the floor for wanting him to try new clothes

probably didn't come fropm k mart

so he paints and the fewmale slave asks chick if shje loves tatsu and she laughs and goes off

so he passes the test and is accepted but dont wanna paint anymore nbow that hje foubnd his princess

oh they got married and probably b0ned

this rteminds me of howe go nagai's editor went to grerat lengths tpo keep him a virgin, so he'd not get tired of drawimng violendt p0rn0

as i guess stan lee and jack kirby had chicks after em non stop too

so he only thinks of his woman now, as a husband should, buit he goes too far and can't paint now

she blamers herself for ruining him and indara is bummed too

he dont know how to anymnore and lost his mojo as he paintedf to find her and now he has

so chick goers to her dad and thinks if she bit it he might paint again

is this like x men or something where if they are togetehr it keeps em from their full power?

wait, thats hancock

so tatsu wakes up and finds a suicide note from her and freaks out and runs to the waterfall where she sed shed end it

there's no body but he thinks shes in h e double soviet korea and jumps in to find her

he wanders around calling her and wait, thats indara and a fishing net guy saved him

so later he gave up on livbe and wants to be with her in h-ll

later at night he sees her in his room and the next day he sees her spirit in the trees

the indara gets him a paintbrush and paper and his sadness let him attain new power like muso tensei in hokuto no ken

now hes a big painting star and white people like his art ofg what looks like some yokai battle or samurai duel

but hes still sad as he wabnts his woman and sees her reflection in the pond but shes not there

btw, what year is this? is this the 1800s? 1920s? the future and after a nucular holocost like that corman movie?

so later he holds her kimono and she returns to him and says now that he knows sadness, he can handle the love and can paint and she can be with him again

they hug and then we see him by this big valley like two cruder dudes but less mad max and an actual big valley and painting with his best girly by his side

leapingh from tree to tree across the miroki klan village, and they sing, sing! sing!!!

her's a samurai and hes not right

he does butt stuff like a sodomite!

wait, thats the canadian version

the end

that was pretty good

no need foor big budget cgi fights or loud mach 6 action

no fights not nude scenes, no swearing, no degenerates

just a good solid love story and drama

Hayakawa does well in here and is great as an eccentric artist

the other cast did their parts wll too and i like the places they filmed

its got that garden and past japan style like a samurai m ovie and i like the colored tinting for different areas

like vblue for night or yellow for inside

it tells a well done story and is only like an hour long

it does it well and doesn't waste time on fluff to get it to 2 hours 17 mins

i liked this and its a good film that works well

For The Dragon Painter 2 I want it to be in the late 20s when the russians are coming for round 2 of the Russo JaPANESE war and Tatsu is recruited to draw pro japan posters, but thge soviet attck and get to his home, so he reveals he actually IS 1000 years old and is a yokai who has great power, also his woman actually IS a dragon lady and both transform and fight the soviets as 15 foot tall stop motion thjings like King Kong! But the soviets have army's of mammoths and aper men bred by stalin and the Dragon Couple go on the attack on the soviets and bust em up while fighting their apemen and mammoths! Also its a 128 bit game on Dreamcast, GameCube, PS2 and XboX where you ply as these 2 kaiju and bust stereotypical soviet cities and deal with mammoths and ape men riding em and use powers that get stronger by busting enough enemies as their blood gives you ki.
